The Ultimate Experience

The 'Team':

Luke Tobiasiewicz and Cat Gale have been playing Ultimate for many years now and have both represented Great Britain (and Poland). Together they work with the National Governing Body - UK Ultimate - to run tournaments nationwide and coach local schools and clubs in Hertfordshire. Both coach the Hertfordshire University team and previously Oxford Brookes University too.

What is The Ultimate Experience?

This is a project up and running in and around St Albans where Luke and Cat visit local schools and run a range of different 'experiences' of the sport. The overall aim is to increase participation for all ages and abilities and allow children to experience a new and exciting sport which emphasises fair play and respect - the fundamental aspect and first rule of the game. The Ultimate Experience can include day or half-day taster sessions, weekly coaching in PE lessons and after school clubs. It all depends on the needs of your school!

Whilst the project was initially aimed at primary and secondary schools, Team TG also offer The Ultimate Experience to work parties and other organisations. The more people we can get playing Ultimate, the better!

What is Ultimate?

Ultimate Frisbee is a expanding sport with elements from traditional sports such as Basketball, Netball and American Football in a unique form; the involvement of a flying disc. Ultimate is a fun and fully inclusive sport allowing all to play in a mixed gender setup. The sport is self officiated; competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect between players, abiding by the rules and the basic joy of play. If you have never seen or heard of Ultimate, here is a short video to show you what to expect.

What happens at The Ultimate Experience?

Our coaches will teach the basic skills of the game, run age-appropriate activities and drills, set up competitive games and teach the rules of the sport. The first and most important rule is Spirit Of The Game, on which the sport was founded. Cat and Luke will emphasise the importance of self-control, conflict resolution and fair play throughout the session. There are always opportunities to take part in competitions too. Coaching over a longer period of time will allow teams to enter into local tournaments to experience the sport at its best - against other fanatics of the sport.

In a sport that gives all people alike a new opportunity to take part, with most people entirely new to it, children have plenty of others alongside them to experience an engaging and co-operative sport together.

The Ultimate Experience is supported not only by Uk Ultimate (the National Governing Body) but also West Herts College,  through a student of the Sport Studies Foundation Degree, Christopher Samways. Chris is assisting in the development of the business as part of his Work Based Learning Project which also involves analysing a number of factors that contribute to the improvement in the business and development of clubs and teams within it.
